Early life and background

Bhuban Badyakar comes from Birbhum in West Bengal, where he grew up singing with a local Baul group. He made his living as a street vendor, selling items such as untoasted peanuts—known locally as kacha badam—and small scrap goods. Details about his exact age and early family circumstances are not publicly available, but he has described his roots as being in a small village and has spoken about the importance of his family’s support.

Career

Badyakar’s rise began while he worked on the streets buying and selling scraps and peanuts. At some point a customer heard him singing a tune about kacha badam and asked him to sing again so it could be recorded. That recording was posted on social media and quickly spread, turning the song “Kacha Badam” into a viral hit in 2022.

The viral attention led to a formal music release: Godhulibela Music produced a remix titled “Badam 2.0” that featured Bhuban. As the song spread, people across India—and on international social platforms—used the track in short-form video content, which multiplied its reach. The popularity was boosted further when model Anjali Arora made a lip-sync video using the song.

With the commercial interest that followed, Bhuban signed a deal with the label. The label’s owner confirmed a payment arrangement of Rs. 3 lakhs, with an initial cheque issued for a portion of that amount. The sudden visibility also brought invitations to perform at venues in Kolkata, including stages and hotel events, giving him a chance to be seen as a musician rather than solely as a vendor.

Public profile

The surge in attention in 2022 brought Bhuban public recognition. He was felicitated by the West Bengal Police and was invited to appear on the television program Dadagiri Unlimited Season 9, where former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly honored him. In interviews, Bhuban has described feeling privileged and humbled by the response, noting that the success has been a source of pride for both himself and his village.

Personal life

Bhuban Badyakar is married and has three children: two sons and a daughter. He has said his family was happy about the success of his song, though they sometimes worry about the demands of his new schedule when he travels for performances. Bhuban has expressed gratitude and a desire to use his musical talent to secure a better future for his family.

Latest updates

Following the viral moment in 2022, Bhuban continued to perform at events in Kolkata and received media and civic recognition. The remix release and subsequent payments from the music label marked a shift toward professional releases and wider performances. He has remained publicly grateful for the opportunities that followed the unexpected popularity of his street song.

Overall, Bhuban Badyakar’s story is one of a village singer and street vendor whose unassuming performance reached a broad audience through a single social-media recording, transforming him into a recognized musical figure in a short span of time.
