Bhumika Gurung was born on 27 January 1990 in Delhi. She attended Lady Irwin School in New Delhi and grew up in a family that later relocated to Mumbai because of her father’s business. Her father is named Aaditya Gurung. Bhumika has two brothers, Karan Singh and Prithvi Gurung, and a sister, Priyanka Singh Gurung.

Before entering the entertainment industry she worked in corporate roles in Mumbai, including positions as a senior executive recruiter at Character Sketches and as a business development executive at Exa India Pvt Ltd. She has described herself as having a fun-loving and energetic personality and lists singing, dancing and painting among her hobbies.

Career

Bhumika began her acting career on television with an appearance in the Channel V series Gumrah: End of Innocence. She later appeared in the Bollywood film Wedding Anniversary (2017). Her breakthrough came in 2017 when she was cast as the lead in the Star Bharat series Nimki Mukhiya. The show cast her as Nimki, a carefree and materialistic young woman who unexpectedly becomes the mukhiya, or head, of her village. The role brought her wide recognition and prompted a sequel, Nimki Vidhayak, in 2019 in which she reprised the character.

Her performance in Nimki Mukhiya earned industry recognition: she won the Best Debut Actress award at the Gold Awards in 2018 for her portrayal of Nimki, and she received the Talented Actress of the Year award at the Universal India Awards in 2021.
