Early life and background

Deepti Bhagwan Sharma was born on 24 August 1997 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Raised in a middle-class family, she grew up fascinated by cricket from a young age. Her father, Bhagwan Sharma, worked for the Indian Railways and her mother, Sushilla Sharma, served as a college principal. Cricket ran in the household: several of her brothers were involved with the sport, and her brother Sumit became her first coach, later running a cricket coaching camp in Uttar Pradesh.

Deepti’s early talent was noticed at local nets and coaching camps. A chance moment at a practice session drew the attention of former India player Hemlata Kala, who encouraged more formal training and helped arrange opportunities at railway camps and other coaching facilities. Rita Dey later became another mentor who supported Deepti’s development. After progressing through state-level auditions and domestic fixtures, she earned selection for higher-level camps and India A fixtures on the way to full international honours.

Career

Deepti Sharma established herself as an all-round cricketer who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm off-break. She made her One Day International debut for India on 28 November 2014 against South Africa in Bengaluru. Her T20 International debut came on 31 January 2016 against Australia in Sydney, and she played her first Test match on 16 June 2021 against England at Bristol.
