Karan Oberoi was born on 14 September 1978 in Amritsar, Punjab, and grew up in Chandigarh. He pursued higher studies at the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) in Chennai and holds a degree in Nautical Science. Raised in a family that includes his father B. J. S. Oberoi, a former Indian Army serviceman, his mother Rupinder Oberoi, a brother Bhupinder Oberoi (among other siblings) and a sister Gurbani Oberoi, Karan identifies with the Sikh faith.
