Early life and background

Lolla Venkata Revanth Kumar Sharma was born on 10 February 1990 in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. Raised primarily by his mother, Seetha Subbalaxmi, Revanth spent his childhood and school years in Visakhapatnam. He attended Bala Bhanu Vidyalayam in Srikakulam and later studied at Dr V. S. Krishna Government Degree College in Visakhapatnam. From an early age he was drawn to singing and took part in district and state-level competitions while completing his graduation.

Revanth has spoken about financial difficulties during his youth and the jobs he took on to support his family, including work at PCO booths and outdoor catering. He also studied Vedic literature and the Bhagavad Gita during school, which helped him become proficient in Sanskrit.

Career

Revanth’s public career began on television singing shows. He first appeared on the Telugu reality show Saptaswaralu in 2008 and later took part in Super Singer (Telugu) where he finished as runner-up in season 5 and again in season 7. He returned to the franchise in a mentoring role for Super Singer season 8. He made his national breakthrough by winning Indian Idol season 9 in December 2019, a victory that included a music contract with Sony Music, a car and a cash prize.

Alongside reality television, Revanth built a career as a playback singer across multiple South Indian languages. His early film work includes the Telugu song "Jalak Diklaja" from Maha Yagnam (2008). He has recorded songs in Kannada, Tamil and Hindi as well, with notable contributions such as the Tamil song "Vithi Nathiye" from Thadam (2019) and the Hindi title track for the television show Sabse Bada Kalakar (2017). He also composed background scores for Telugu films including Maryada Ramanna (2010), Badrinath (2011) and Dhammu (2012).

Revanth’s voice became widely recognised after lending vocals to the song "Manohari" from the pan-Indian film Baahubali: The Beginning (2015). His catalogue includes popular Telugu tracks such as "Amba Dari" (Badrinath, 2011), "Haayi Haayiga" (Naa Ishtam, 2012), "Vennelaina Cheekataina" (Prema Katha Chitram, 2013), "Luckkanna Mate Nillu" (Raghuvaran B Tech, 2014), "Rekkalatho Chukkalakegira" (Speedunnodu, 2016) and "Telisiney Na Nuvvey" (Arjun Reddy, 2017). He has also sung the title song for the film Seetimaarr (2021). Over the course of his career he has recorded more than 200 songs in Telugu and Kannada and has performed in over 500 live shows both in India and internationally, including tours to the USA, Singapore, Australia and the UAE.

His work has been recognised with several awards: Best Playback Singer – Male at the Maa Music Awards (2011), Best Debut Singer – Male at the BIG FM Telugu Movie Awards (2011), a Special Jury Award at the TSR-TV9 National Film Awards (2015), Best Playback Singer for a television title at the Teluguflame TV Awards (2017), and Best Male Playback Singer at the Santosham Film Awards (2018).

Revanth rose further in the public eye when he won Bigg Boss Telugu season 6 in December 2022. He has also appeared on television as a judge and mentor: he served as a jury member on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – The Next Singing Icon (Zee Telugu) in 2020 and as a mentor on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa – The Singing Superstar (Zee Telugu) in 2022.
