Manimaran Siddharth (Cricketer) Biography

Manimaran Siddharth is an Indian domestic cricketer from Chennai who bowls slow left-arm orthodox. He has been a key performer for Tamil Nadu in short-form

Early life and background

Manimaran Siddharth was born on July 3, 1998, and is from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He spent the first nine years of his life in Indonesia because his father worked there and played cricket for an Indonesian side, an experience that helped spark Siddharth’s early interest in the game. His mother’s name is Anitha Manimaran and he has a brother, Bharath Manimaran, who has worked at Wipro Limited.

Siddharth attended schools in Chennai, including Chettinad Vidyashram and Don Bosco High School, and later studied at Loyola College. He began his cricketing journey as a pace bowler but shifted to spin under the guidance of his coach when his pace did not develop as expected. His brother also helped him correct his bowling action during his formative years.

Physical profile

Siddharth stands about 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in) tall. He has dark brown eyes and black hair. He bats right-handed and bowls slow left-arm orthodox.

Career

Siddharth has represented Tamil Nadu at the domestic level and has played for regional and franchise sides in domestic T20 competitions and the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has worn the jersey number 30 in IPL competitions.

He made a strong impression in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy early in his career. On November 22, 2019, Siddharth made his T20 debut for Tamil Nadu against Mumbai and produced an eye-catching four-wicket haul in his four-over spell, removing several top-order batsmen and helping Tamil Nadu to a nine-wicket victory. In the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy he recorded another four-wicket performance, this time against Jharkhand.

Siddharth made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy on December 9, 2019, against Karnataka and took three wickets in that match.

In the Tamil Nadu Premier League he claimed five wickets across seven matches for the Chepauk Super Gillies. He was also part of the Tamil Nadu side that won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021, and in the final against Baroda on January 31, 2021, he took four wickets for 20 runs, a performance that earned him the player of the match award and helped restrict Baroda to 120 runs.

IPL and franchise career

Siddharth entered the IPL auction system as a young spinner. Kolkata Knight Riders bought him at the 2020 auction at a base price of 20 lakh INR. He did not become a regular in KKR’s playing XI and was released ahead of the 2021 season, but the time with the squad gave him exposure alongside experienced international spinners.

Delhi Capitals then acquired Siddharth at the 2021 IPL auction, again at a base price of 20 lakh INR. He described the move as an opportunity to learn from senior international players and coaches in a squad that had recently been IPL runners-up.

In the 2024 IPL auction, Lucknow Super Giants purchased Siddharth for 2.4 crore INR, marking a significant increase in his franchise valuation.

Public profile

Siddharth is unmarried. He has not yet made his international debut in ODI, Test, or T20 formats for India. His primary role remains that of a bowler for Tamil Nadu and in various franchise competitions. D Vasu is listed as a coach or mentor who has been associated with his development.
