Early life and backgroundMithila Palkar was born on 10 January 1993 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and grew up in a Marathi family. She attended I. E. S. Modern English School in Mumbai and later graduated with a Bachelor of Mass Media (B.M.M.) from Smt. Mithibai Motiram Kundnani College. From an early age she was involved in theatre—making her first stage appearance at 12—and lived with her maternal grandparents during her school years.
While still in college Mithila became active in the youth theatre movement Thespo. She volunteered with Q Theatre Productions and in 2013 worked as a festival manager for Thespo, a role that expanded her exposure to directors and actors and helped shape her early career choices.
Career
Mithila’s performing background includes training in Kathak dance and several theatre productions such as Tunni Ki Kahani and Aaj Rang Hai. Though she initially intended to start in Marathi theatre, her first professional audition was for an English play, and she soon branched into short films, web series, music and commercial work.
Her on-screen debut came with a short Marathi film, Majha Honeymoon (2014), followed by her Bollywood debut in the 2015 film Katti Batti, in which she played Koyal Kabra. Around the same time she began appearing on digital platforms. A suggestion from writer-actor Dhruv Sehgal led to an opportunity with FilterCopy to anchor News Darshan, a YouTube satire show inspired by Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
Mithila gained widespread recognition through two Hindi web series. She portrayed Meera Sehgal in Bindass’s Girl In The City (2016–2017) and reached broader audiences as Kavya Kulkarni in Netflix’s Little Things. In January 2016 she appeared alongside Dhruv Sehgal in two viral FilterCopy videos, Annoying Things Boyfriends Do and Confusing Things Girlfriends Say, which together garnered millions of views and significantly raised her profile.
Music and other projects have been part of her creative output. Although she never undertook formal vocal training, Mithila recorded a cup-percussion style Marathi song, Hi Chaal Turu Turu, for her YouTube channel in 2016 that attracted attention on social media. She also released a song titled Maharashtra Desha on YouTube for Maharashtra Day in collaboration with Bharatiya Digital Party (BhaDiPa). In 2017 she sang the title track for the Marathi film Muramba with Jasraj Jayant Joshi, and she also played the film’s female lead, Indu.
Recognition and public engagements
Mithila’s performances have earned industry recognition. She received the WBR Iconic Achiever’s Award for Most Promising Actor of the Year and won the 4th Jio Filmfare Award Marathi for Best Debut (Female) for Muramba. In February 2018 she was named to the Forbes India 30 Under 30 list. She has delivered a TEDx talk (NIT Silchar, June 2017) about following passion and learning along the way.
Her visibility extends to advertising and editorial work; she has featured in commercials for brands including Maggi and Tata Tea and has appeared on magazine covers such as New Woman and Just Urbane.

Mithila is known for a friendly, accessible presence on digital platforms, combining acting, singing and hosting. She lists hobbies that include dancing, singing, travelling and writing, and has said she enjoys cupcakes and festivals such as Diwali. She is an animal lover and maintains a public image that blends commercial work with independent digital creativity.
