Early life and background

Navdeep Amarjeet Saini was born on 23 November 1992 in Karnal, Haryana. Raised in a middle-class Sikh family, he grew up in the same town that he still lists as his hometown and address. His father, Amarjeet Singh Saini, worked as a driver for a Haryana government department. Saini has an elder brother, Mandeep Singh Saini; details about his mother and any sisters are not publicly specified in the research excerpt.

Navdeep completed his higher education at Kurukshetra University, earning a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Computer Science and Engineering. From an early age he wanted to become a professional cricketer, and despite financial constraints he pursued the sport, initially playing with a tennis ball and taking part in local trials such as the Karnal Premier League where he began to attract notice.

Career

Saini’s domestic breakthrough came when he was selected to play for Delhi. He made his first-class debut in the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy against Vidarbha at Delhi, picking up two wickets in that match. His performances at the state level eventually led to opportunities with India A and appearances as a net bowler during a tour to South Africa.

In franchise cricket, Saini entered the Indian Premier League in 2017 when Delhi Daredevils bought him at auction. The following year he was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 IPL auction. Domestically he has been associated with Delhi and has worn the domestic jersey number 23.

Internationally, Saini has represented India in all three formats. He made his Twenty20 international debut on 3 August 2019 against West Indies at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground. His One Day International debut came on 22 December 2019 against West Indies in Cuttack. Saini’s Test debut was on 7 January 2021 against Australia in Sydney.

He owns a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a bike he showcased in a video shared on 30 May 2021 that went viral on social media. The clip generated public reaction concerning the way the bike was handled in the footage.

Saini follows Sikhism and his zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He lists travelling among his hobbies and counts former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir among his favourite players. Navdeep Saini married Swati Asthana, an air hostess and fashion vlogger, on 23 November 2023.
