Early life and backgroundRajnigandha Shekhawat was born on 18 November 1975 in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Raised in a family with royal lineage, she grew up speaking Marwari and attended Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls' School in Jaipur. She pursued higher education at Maharani College in Jaipur and later studied at Rajasthan Sangeet Sansthan and SNDT University in Mumbai. Her formal training includes Hindustani classical music studies and advanced instruction in the Gwalior gharana tradition.

Career
Rajnigandha began her recorded career with the 2006 album Soul of the Desert. Over the following decade and a half she developed a distinct niche by fusing Rajasthani folk and Marwari with English and contemporary styles—an approach that brought her recognition as a crossover artist. Her mashups, particularly those that combine Rajasthani folk with Western pop, have been highlighted as a defining element of her public work.
Shekhawat has released songs tied to film and independent projects, including tracks featured in Monsoon Shootout (Tattoo, 2014), Margarita with a Straw (Aai’s Aalaap, 2014), Badrinath Ki Dulhania (title track, 2017), and Kaagaz (Laalam Laal, 2021). Her 2017 mashup Cheap Thrills with Ghoomar reached wide popularity and contributed to her reputation as a pioneer of English–Rajasthani mashups.
Her recorded and commercial work also includes jingles for brands such as Fanta, Jabong, Lenovo and Rajasthan Tourism, as well as contributions to TV music projects including a song for Indian Idol 10 (Mausam Music Ka) and a Red FM jingle. She participated in the television reality show Rising Star in 2018 and has performed internationally, with more than 500 live concerts across various countries as of 2021.
Shekhawat worked with the Times Music group early in her professional life and later established a publicity agency in Mumbai that has handled promotion for celebrity clients and brands, including projects with Disney India and Times Music.

She has said she consciously balanced Western vocal styles with Indian singing to preserve her Hindi singing voice, while later developing an interest in Western music and taking lessons to broaden her range.
Her body of work has earned several honours: the Best Female Artist Aloud Award in 2011, recognition among 25 Women of Substance of Rajasthan in 2012, the Rajasthan Sangeet Ratna title in 2012, and the Best Fusion Song Award in the Non-Film Music category at the Jaipur Music Festival Awards in 2017.
Shekhawat has used digital platforms to reach audiences, launching a self-titled YouTube channel in 2009 where she posts singing videos. She is sometimes described in media as the “MahaRani of Mashups” for her role popularizing Rajasthani–English fusions.
