Early life and backgroundRenuka Singh Thakur was born on 1 February 1996 in the village of Parsa in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh. She grew up in a family where sport was encouraged from an early age; her father worked for the Himachal Pradesh Irrigation and Public Health department before his death when Renuka was a young child, and her mother later supported the family while working in the same department. Renuka spent much of her childhood playing cricket in and around her village and was motivated by relatives, including an uncle who taught physical education.
She attended local schools in Himachal Pradesh and pursued higher education at institutions in Amritsar and Dharamshala, including Guru Nanak Dev University and Khalsa College. In 2009 she enrolled at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association’s women’s residential academy in Dharamshala, a formative step in her cricket development.
Career
Renuka progressed through Himachal Pradesh’s age-group sides, representing the state at Under-16 and Under-19 levels before breaking into senior domestic cricket. As a right-arm medium-fast bowler who bats right-handed, she became a prominent performer for Himachal Pradesh in domestic tournaments.
Her domestic form earned her national recognition. In 2019 she was selected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for a women’s one-day match and joined national squads for tours that included Australia as well as series against Bangladesh and Thailand. She was the leading wicket-taker for her side in the 2019–20 Senior Women’s One Day League, taking 23 wickets in that competition.
Renuka made her international Twenty20 debut on 7 October 2021 during India’s T20I series in Australia. She continued to push into the international frame and was named to India’s squad for the Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. On 18 February 2022 she made her Women’s One Day International debut against New Zealand.
Alongside her international progress, Renuka has represented institutional teams in India; she joined the railways in 2021 and, in the inaugural Women’s Premier League auction in February 2023, was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Throughout her career she has worked with coaches including Pawan Sen and Veena Pandey. Former players such as Zaheer Khan and domestic pacer Harpreet Dhillon are cited by her as cricketing influences.

Renuka stands about 1.62 meters tall (5 feet 4 inches) and her playing weight is listed at roughly 50 kilograms. She is noted for a tattoo on her right arm. Off the field she lists hobbies such as travelling, cooking, watching films, and playing video games.
