Early life and backgroundResham was born Saima Shah on 2 October 1968 in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. Her father died before she was born and her mother passed away when Resham was seven, after which she was raised by her elder sister, Shamim. She completed her high school education but did not pursue further formal studies.
Career
Resham began her career in modelling soon after finishing high school, moving into acting on television and in films. Her earliest television work included a leading role in the PTV drama Din (1992), in which she played the character Nawal. She made her film debut in Jeeva (1995) portraying the title character’s daughter.
Across the late 1990s and into the 2000s Resham built a substantial body of work in Pakistani cinema and television. Notable film appearances from that period include Chor Machaye Shor (1996), Sangam (1997) — for which she received the National Award for Best Actress — Jannat Ki Talash (1999), and Pal Do Pal (1999). She continued to appear in films in later years, including Swaarangi (2014).
On television, Resham has acted in more than 15 dramas. Her performances as Zainab in Man-O-Salwa (2007) and as Aashti in the drama Aashti are among her best-known small-screen roles. Her later television appearances that gained audience appreciation include Naagin (2017) as Sajna, Noor Bibi (2021) in the title role, and Tehra Aangan (2021) as Rakhsekamar.
Throughout her career she has been selective about the projects she accepts, saying she chooses roles that offer appropriate visibility and creative value. Her work has been formally recognised: she won the Nigar Award for Jannat Ki Talash (1999) and was honoured with the Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 2021.
Public profile
Resham’s public life has combined acting with visible philanthropic activity. She has been involved in relief and charitable efforts over many years, including sending multiple trucks of food to flood-affected areas in 2010 through Express Helpline Trust and distributing water, milk, dry fruits and cooked meals to people affected by floods in Charsadda in 2022. She has also supported unemployed artists and the widows of actors with modest financial assistance during Ramadan and took responsibility for the education and living expenses of an abandoned girl child who had been found near her sister’s hotel.
Her outspoken nature has occasionally brought controversy. At times she has faced criticism for specific actions and public remarks; she also responded publicly when fellow actors questioned the awarding of national honours. Resham has expressed strong personal views on a range of topics in interviews and television appearances.
Personal life
Resham is unmarried. She lost a brother in 2020. She follows Islam and identifies as Pakistani. Physical details listed in public records describe her height at approximately 170 cm (5'7") and a weight near 55 kg, with black hair and eyes. She has said she is non-vegetarian and that she prefers to be selective about roles offered to her, insisting on appropriate promotional recognition when she signs a project.
Latest updates
