Early life and background

Ricky Bhui was born on 29 September 1996 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and grew up in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. He attended Visakha Valley School and later studied at NRI Junior College in Visakhapatnam. Bhui began playing cricket as a child, taking up the sport around the age of nine and progressing through local coaching before moving into competitive junior pathways.

Career

Bhui is a right-handed top-order batsman who made his first-class debut for Andhra in 2013 against Himachal Pradesh at Visakhapatnam. Early in his List A career he produced a notable performance, scoring a century on his List A debut for Andhra versus Goa in Bengaluru in 2014. During his youth career he was part of India’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and has also captained the India Under-19 side in a tri-series.

In domestic representative cricket Bhui has appeared for Andhra and has occasionally bowled leg-spin. His performances at domestic level earned him selection to India A for the Deodhar Trophy in 2018; on debut for India A against India B at Dharamsala he made 78 runs.

Indian Premier League

Bhui has been involved in the Indian Premier League through auction purchases. Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired him in the 2018 IPL auction for a reported price of Rs. 20 lakh. More recently, at the 2024 IPL auction held in Dubai on 19 December 2023, Delhi Capitals purchased him at a base price of Rs. 20 lakh.
