Early life and background

Shivam Pankaj Mavi was born on 26 November 1998 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Raised in a family from the Mawana tehsil of Meerut district, he attended City Public School in Noida and later completed a Bachelor of Business Administration at Al Falah University in Faridabad. His parents are Pankaj Mavi, who worked as a private contractor with Noida Authority, and Kavita Mavi, a homemaker. He has an elder sister named Shalu Mavi.

Mavi took to cricket at a young age, playing in streets near his ancestral village and beginning formal coaching at about ten years old under Phoolchand Sharma at the Billabong Academy in Noida. Initially a batsman, his coach encouraged him to focus on bowling after noticing his aggressive approach with the ball. He also worked with pacer Anureet Singh to develop his seam bowling.

Career

Mavi progressed through age-group cricket, featuring for Delhi Under-14 and Uttar Pradesh Under-16 sides before moving into higher representative squads. He made his India Under-19 debut on 23 July 2017 against England U-19 and was part of India’s 2018 Under-19 World Cup squad, finishing that tournament with nine wickets in six matches as India lifted the title.
