Sidharth Sagar Biography

Indian comedian, mimicry artist and actor Sidharth Sagar rose to fame with memorable television comedy characters and a long career that began in childhood

Early life and background
Sidharth Sagar was born on 15 June 1993 in Delhi, India. Raised in a family with artistic leanings—his father Sirish Sagar is a painter and his mother Alka Sagar is a painter who has served as chairperson of the Mumbai Animal Association—Sidharth grew up in Delhi and attended Ahlcon International School. He began performing at a very young age, taking to stand-up and mimicry by the time he was eight. As a teenager he also started a small restaurant in Delhi called Nukkad Bhukkad.

Career
Sidharth’s professional life has been rooted in comedy, mimicry and acting. He made his television debut as a stand-up comedian on Comedy Circus- Chinchpokli To China in 2009 and appeared in a string of TV comedy programmes in the following years, including Chhote Miyan Bade Miyan, Laughter Ke Phatke and Comedy Ka Daily Soap. In 2012 he featured on Sony TV’s Comedy Circus Ke Ajoobe alongside comedians Krishna Abhishek and Sudesh Lehri.

A turning point came in 2014, when he became widely recognised for the character Selfie Mausi on the Life OK show Comedy Classes. That same year he also acted in the sitcom Pritam Pyare Aur Woh, playing the role of Pritam. He continued working in television and later transitioned to film, appearing in the 2022 movie Vellapanti as the character Shampy. Over the years Sidharth has maintained a profile as a mimicry artist and performer in both solo and ensemble comedic formats.

Public profile
Sidharth is known by nicknames such as Sid and Siddhu and is identified publicly as an Indian national with a hometown of Delhi. He stands around 170 cm (about 5'7") tall and has dark brown eyes and black hair. His tastes include simple favourites such as daal chawal for food and the song Enna Sona from the film OK Jaanu; he has said he enjoys travelling to Goa and cites Salman Khan as a favourite actor.

Sidharth’s personal life has been a visible part of his public narrative. He was engaged to actor and model Subuhi Joshi in November 2018; they had a relationship that began after meeting on set and later experienced difficulties before reconciling at times. He has an elder sister, Karuna Sagar, and remains unmarried.

Challenges and controversies
Sidharth’s career has included a number of public controversies and personal challenges. While working on Comedy Nights Live in 2016 he was involved in an on-set incident with fellow comedian Bharti Singh that led to disputes with the show’s team and his eventual separation from that production partnership. He has described differences with producers over creative and casting roles and expressed a desire to pursue more solo-led projects rather than supporting parts.

From late 2017 into 2018 Sidharth went through a prolonged and highly publicised period of personal turmoil. He was reported missing for several months and later held a press conference in which he described difficult experiences involving medication, rehabilitation and family disputes. He also alleged addiction to certain substances in the past and described time in rehab. Representatives from a rehabilitation centre involved in his care said they assessed him and adjusted his medications, after which he improved. His mother offered a different account of those events, and the episode included legal and personal disagreements that were widely covered in the media. In later interviews Sidharth said he reconciled with his parents and credited his recovery to the support he received from his mother.

Latest updates
After recovering from that difficult phase, Sidharth returned to work, completing a film shoot and taking part in the television show Gangs of Filmistan. He has spoken about learning from past mistakes and limiting the circle of people he trusts. He continues to be active as a comedian and performer, building on a career that started in childhood and spans television and film.
