Early life and background

Veda Krishnamurthy was born on 16 October 1992 in Kadur, Karnataka. She grew up in a family that encouraged her early interest in cricket; she began playing street cricket at around three years old and pursued structured training after responding to a trial camp advertisement in Bangalore. Her schooling took place at Cambridge School in Bangalore and she later graduated with a degree in Arts from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.

Veda’s progression into competitive cricket began at a young age. Coaches who observed her at the Karnataka Cricket Academy identified her talent early. To support her development, she lived away from home during training periods, first cared for by a former state player and later by her elder sister, Vatsala Shivakumar, who rented accommodation in the city so Veda could attend practice consistently. Veda broke into the senior Karnataka team when she was about 13, largely on the strength of her fielding and batting potential. She captained the Karnataka under-19 side and led the team to successive South Zone inter-state titles. Internationally, she made her Twenty20 debut for India on 23 June 2011 against Australia at Billericay and her One Day International debut on 30 June 2011 against England at Derby.
