Early life and backgroundVikramjit Singh was born on 9 January 2003 in Cheema Khurd, Punjab, India. He moved with his family to the Netherlands when he was seven and grew up between the two countries before the family settled in the Netherlands. His grandfather, Khushi Cheema, left India after the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and later built a transport business in Amstelveen; that company was later handed to Vikramjit’s father, Harpreet Singh. Vikramjit’s family experienced challenges adapting to life in the Netherlands and faced racial discrimination in earlier years.
Vikramjit has ties to both Indian and Dutch backgrounds; he has described his father as Dutch and his mother as Indian. From an early age he attracted the attention of established Dutch players, and at eleven he was encouraged by then-captain Peter Borren to join VRA Amsterdam. He also trained for several years under Amit Uniyal at an academy in Chandigarh.
Career
Vikramjit is a left-handed opening batsman who also bowls right-arm medium-fast. He first came into prominence in age-group cricket, making his debut for the Netherlands A side at age 15 and representing the Netherlands under-19 team in the 2019 Under-19 World Cup Europe Qualifier. In that qualifier he scored 304 runs in five innings, finishing as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer and recording a highest score of 133 against France.
He earned his first international call-ups in 2019. Singh was included in the Netherlands’ T20I squad for the Ireland Tri-Nation Series in September 2019 and made his T20I debut on 19 September 2019. He later progressed into the senior ODI setup and made his One Day International debut for the Netherlands in March 2022.
Across formats up to 2023 he has compiled notable statistics. In ODIs he had played 23 matches and scored 755 runs at an average of 32.82, registering one century and four fifties with a top score of 110. In List A cricket he recorded 570 runs in 18 matches at an average of 31.66, including four half-centuries and a top score of 65; he also took five catches and one wicket. His early T20I appearances amounted to five matches and 68 runs with a top score of 39.
A career highlight came during the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Harare, where Singh scored his maiden ODI century — 110 against Oman on 3 July 2023 — becoming one of the youngest players to reach a hundred at that level and helping the Netherlands to a substantial win.
