Google is working on a new Fitbit tracking band in the same vein as the popular Whoop band, and it’s been hiding in plain sight for some time now.
Last month, a report revealed Google’s plans to make a screen-less Fitbit band, and we noted at the time that Steph Curry, Google’s “Performance Advisor” for Fitbit, had been not-so-subtly teasing the device on social media.
That’s kept going.
As noted by Droid-Life, Curry has been wearing the new screen-less Fitbit band since January, with a grey/orange version of the band popping up in social media videos, press conferences, and other videos. These additional looks make it clear this device is pretty thin, and the material looks familiar to other Fitbit products (and Pixel Watch bands).
The overall setup looks basically like you’re wearing Google’s Performance Band for Pixel Watch, just without the watch part.
Perhaps even more interesting is a look at the Fitbit app experience for this new band. There’s little context here, but a “Live data” page shows Cardio Load, heart rate data, energy burned (calories), and “Elasped time” in a workout. The UI here looks very much like it’s from the Fitbit app, but this screen doesn’t exist today.
This is shown on a Pixel phone – Steph actually uses Messages bubbles! – in a behind-the-scenes vlog ahead of NBA All-Star Weekend.
It remains unclear when this new Fitbit band will actually be launching.
