How many software updates will the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold receive?

Best answer: The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold will get seven years of OS and security updates, just like the mainline Galaxy S series.

The Galaxy Z TriFold does not get any special treatment in this area

After pretty much pioneering the foldable segment, Samsung is yet again pushing the needle forward with its first trifold phone called the Galaxy Z TriFold. It’s not the first commercially available tri-folding phone, as Huawei did that with the Mate XT. However, the Galaxy Z TriFold is definitely the first to feature this style of folding, where the outer display is its own entity and not part of the folding screen.

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z TriFold in the U.S., pricing it at $2,899 for the singular 512GB storage variant. What’s even crazier is that the phone is already sold out, although we don’t know how many units were available to begin with. While the pricing is very high for a smartphone, keep in mind that the 1TB variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 retails for $2,019.99, so about $900 more for a product that’s one of a kind right now is not entirely crazy.

We’ve actually gone hands-on with the Galaxy Z TriFold, and it’s certainly a brilliant feat of engineering. When unfolded, it measures just 3.9mm at the thinnest point, and it’s 12.9mm when folded. If the latter number is throwing you off, remember that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 from 2023 was 13.4mm thick and the Z Fold 6 was 12.1mm thick. The Galaxy Z TriFold has roughly the same thickness as the Mate XT.

And it’s a proper flagship too. Samsung has used the absolute best components in the Galaxy Z TriFold, like the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, a 200MP main camera, a massive 5,600mAh battery, and a 10-inch AMOLED folding screen. For the first time in a long time, you’ll be getting a charger (45W) and a case in the box. This is quite easily the best Samsung phone on sale today.

I would have liked to see one more year added to the seven-year commitment, even if it was a one-time perk just for this device. Seven years is still a long time, though, and I don’t think early adopters will complain about it.
