Early life and background

Anjum Fakih was born on 12 September 1989 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in a Konkani Muslim family, she has described herself as partly Indian and partly Arab. Her parents live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Fakih attended the University of Mumbai.

She grew up in a conservative environment and has said that she wore a burqa from fourth grade until 2009. In 2010 she made a conscious decision to change how she dressed and to pursue modelling and acting. When her parents did not support this choice, she left home at 19 and moved to Mumbai. To fund her relocation she used money she had saved from babysitting and giving tuition while living in Saudi Arabia.

Career

Fakih began working in modelling and was associated with Elan Modelling Agency Pvt Ltd. Early on she took small acting roles on television, appearing in shows such as Aahat, MTV Chat House and My Way. Her first listed television debut is MTV Chat House in 2015.

She gained wider recognition after being cast as Rani Rageshwari Singh in the Zee TV period drama Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani. Following that, Fakih appeared in a number of other television series, including Time Machine, Tere Sheher Mein, Devanshi and Kundali Bhagya. Standing at 180 cm (5'11"), she has observed that her height has sometimes worked against her when casting for conventional leading parts.

In modelling, Fakih has won the title of Ford Super Model, an achievement noted alongside her acting work.
