Gurpreet Kaur Bhangu was born on 13 May 1959 in the village of Kahan Singh Wala in Bathinda district, Punjab. Raised in the region, she later counted Chamkaur Sahib in Rupnagar as her hometown. She completed graduate studies, attending Punjabi University in Patiala and having ties to the RICC Bassi Gujjran institute in Rupnagar.
