Meena Durairaj was born on 16 September 1976 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in a family that includes her parents Durairaj and Raj Mallika, she completed her schooling at Vidyodaya School in Chennai and went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in History from the University of Madras. Meena trained in Bharatanatyam and lists dance among her hobbies.

Career

Meena began acting as a child artist, making her film debut in the Tamil movie Nenjangal in 1982. Over the years she built a pan‑South Indian career, appearing in films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Her early credits include Telugu and Malayalam debuts in 1984 and a Bollywood appearance in 1992. She has been credited with notable commercial and critical success, receiving several awards in Best Actress categories such as the Tamil Nadu State Film Award and the Nandi Award.

In addition to acting, Meena has worked as a playback singer.
