Payal Rohatgi was born on 9 November 1985 in Hyderabad, Telangana, and grew up in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. She attended Udgam School in Ahmedabad and went on to earn a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Engineering from Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering. Rohatgi comes from a family with an engineering background: her father, Shashank Rohatgi, is a chemical engineer, and her brother, Gaurav Rohatgi, is an electronics engineer. Her mother, Veena Rohatgi, worked as a supervisor teacher.

Career

Rohatgi moved into modeling and acting after early successes in beauty pageants. In 2001 she won titles that included Supermodel Miss Tourism World and Miss India Tourism, which led to commercial work for major brands. Her advertising credits include campaigns for household and consumer brands and appearances alongside prominent Indian personalities in televised commercials.

Her film debut came in 2002 with roles in Bollywood and Hollywood projects; she played Esha in the Bollywood film Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai? and also worked in projects across languages, including Telugu. Over the years she has taken on film work in Hindi, English and Telugu and has featured in music videos for Indian artists.

Rohatgi has been a frequent presence on Indian reality television. She competed on Bigg Boss Season 2 in 2008 and later appeared on shows such as Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka (2009), Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout (2011), Survivor India (2012) and Nach Baliye Season 7 (2015), the latter alongside Sangram Singh. She won the reality show Welcome – Baazi Mehmaan Nawazi Ki in 2013 and also appeared on Bigg Boss Season 7 to support Sangram Singh.
