Purbi Joshi was born on 19 August 1974 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She grew up in a family with deep roots in theatre and acting: her father worked as a theatre director and her mother is an acclaimed film and stage actress. Raised in Mumbai, Joshi has Indian nationality and practices Hinduism. Her upbringing in a performance-oriented household set the stage for a career in entertainment.

Career

Joshi began her career in the public eye as a model, appearing in a number of commercial campaigns before transitioning into acting. Her first television role came in 1995 with the serial Faasle. In 2001 she took on a dual role playing twin sisters in the DD National series Dishayen, an early television highlight that demonstrated her range.
