Rani Chatterjee was born Mirza Sheikh on 3 November 1989 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in the same city, she completed her schooling at Tungareshwar Academy High School in Vasai and later graduated from the University of Mumbai. Her family includes a brother named Sameer Chatterjee; other parents’ and siblings’ names are not publicly listed. She identifies with the Muslim faith.

Career
Rani’s screen career began as a teenager. While still in class ten she received her first acting offer, and she made her film debut in 2004 in the Bhojpuri hit Sasura Bada Paisawala, playing a character called Rani — a name she kept professionally. The director gave her that screen name early in her career.

Over the following years Rani became a prolific performer in Bhojpuri cinema. By 2019 she had appeared in more than 300 films.
