Shamili, also credited as Shamlee Babu and known early on as Baby Shamili, is an Indian actress who rose to prominence as a child artist across South India
Early life and backgroundShamili was born Shamlee Babu on 10 July 1987 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in Chennai, she grew up in a family connected to the film industry: her father is Sharaf Babu, her mother is Alice, and two of her siblings are actors — her brother Richard Rishi and her sister Shalini. Shamili developed an interest in the arts at a young age, studying painting under the artist Ilangovan and training in Bharatanatyam as well as other dance styles such as jazz, hip-hop and salsa. She later completed a course in film studies in Singapore.
Career
Shamili began appearing on screen as a child. At around two years old she made her first on-screen appearance in the Tamil film Rajanadai (1989) and went on to several notable child roles across multiple Indian film industries. She is best known for portraying the title child character in the Tamil film Anjali (1990), a performance that earned her multiple state-level awards and a National Film Award for Best Child Artist in 1990. In the same year she received recognition from Kerala and Karnataka state awards for her performances in regional films, and she also earned the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Child Artist.

Following a role in the Tamil ensemble Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000), she stepped away from acting for several years to concentrate on her studies.
Shamili returned to on-screen work as an adult in the late 2000s. She re-entered the industry with the Telugu film Oye! (2009), for which she received the CineMAA Award for Best Female Debut.
