From Earth to Heaven: Glimpsing Ayodhya’s Ram Temple through ISRO’s Eyes

Date:

As excitement builds for the grand consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has gifted the nation a celestial glimpse of the magnificent shrine – a divine “darshan” from space.

Using our own indigenous satellites, ISRO has captured stunning images of the 2.7-acre Ram Temple complex, offering a unique perspective from the heavens. These captivating visuals, made possible by the Indian Remote Sensing satellite series, showcase the temple’s grandeur and progress.

It’s worth noting that capturing these images wasn’t an easy feat. Dense fog shrouding Ayodhya in recent weeks presented a challenge, but ISRO’s technology prevailed, gifting us this ethereal perspective.

But ISRO’s contribution to the Ram Temple extends beyond stunning imagery. Space technology has played a pivotal role throughout the construction process, tackling a crucial challenge at the project’s core – pinpointing the exact location for Lord Ram’s idol.

The temple trust aimed to enshrine the idol in the precise 3 feet by 6 feet sanctum sanctorum believed to be Lord Ram’s birthplace. However, nearly three decades had passed since the Babri Masjid’s demolition, and locating the exact spot amidst the accumulated debris required a technological solution.

Enter space technology! Construction giant Larsen & Toubro, entrusted with the temple’s construction, employed cutting-edge Differential Global Positioning Systems (DGPS) based on highly precise co-ordinates. These co-ordinates, accurate to a remarkable 1-3 centimeters, formed the foundation for placing the idol within the sacred sanctum sanctorum.

And guess what? This precision equipment relied on signals from India’s very own “swadeshi GPS” – the ISRO-built Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) satellite system. With five active satellites and scheduled upgrades in the pipeline, NavIC is proudly contributing to national development, even in such sacred endeavours.

ISRO’s contribution to the Ram Temple project goes beyond technology. It’s a testament to the organization’s commitment to empowering our nation, fostering cultural pride, and connecting us to our celestial roots. These space-borne glimpses of the Ram Temple serve as a divine blessing, offering a unique perspective on this monumental project and its spiritual significance.
