After a winter devoid of snow, a blanket of white has finally descended upon Kashmir, transforming the Valley into a magical winter wonderland. The long-awaited snowfall brought immense joy to the residents and tourists alike, who had been eagerly anticipating the season’s first flurry.
Previously, the harsh winter period known as Chillai Kalan, spanning from December 21st to January 31st, remained uncharacteristically dry, marking the driest winter spell on record. Even renowned tourist destinations like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg experienced little to no snowfall during this crucial period, leaving the Valley devoid of its usual winter charm.
The lack of snow had cast a shadow of disappointment upon both locals and tourists, who rely on the picturesque winter landscapes for their livelihood and enjoyment. Wednesday’s snowfall, however, marked a turning point, bringing life back to Kashmir and ending the extended dry spell.
